Every year in the fall, Kappa holds
their annual Kappa Klassic golf tournament. This tournament is broken into two
parts, the fraternity (and other organizations) Klassic as well as the Klassic
for our dads on dads weekend. Throughout the two weeks, donations are gathered
for our beneficiaries (Cedar Creek Therapeutic Riding Center, Reading Is
Fundamental, and Kappa Foundation). This past week was our fraternity Klassic
with all of the events geared towards Greek life and the fraternities participating.
The week before of the Fraternity
Kappa Klassic benefitting Cedar Creek Therapeutic Riding Center, the ladies of
Kappa were all aflutter with activity.
The week started off with King Candidate interviews on Tuesday, September
17th. Every house or organization sent an impeccably well-dressed
representative to charm the Kappas with their witty words. Congratulations to
Bryan of Theta Chi, our 2013 King Candidate winner.
Wednesday,
September 18th started off two nights of serenades. The fraternity
men journeyed to Kappa’s front lawn to serenade the women of Kappa and to
compete against one another for points. Kappa ladies were wooed with cute
songs, humorous dances and masterful skits. The boys obviously went all out to
put on a show and be as entertaining as they could. It was great fun for all.
Thursday,
September 19th was a night full of canning, Kappas and the houses
participating in the Klassic teamed up to walk around downtown and collect
donations for Cedar Creek (our local beneficiary). The Kappas and the boys were
outgoing and friendly causing them to have great success. This activity
continued into the next night.
The
actual golf tournament for the fraternities and organizations was Saturday the
21st and Sunday the 22nd.
The tournament was a full 18 holes with teams of four. The participating
golfers had the lovely Kappa ladies as caddies.
The top ranking team finished 17 under par.
Overall,
it was a successful week for Kappa and our fraternity portion of our philanthropy.
Thank you to everyone who donated and thanks also to anyone who participated!
The Kappas couldn’t wait to have the second half of the Klassic with their dads
the following weekend.
Dads weekend was just as successful as the weekend before
it. The girls and their families took buses to Midway the night of Friday, September
27th to have an awesome bonfire. Many Kappas had
their whole families there. The whole night there was a dj playing an excellent
soundtrack to the evening, about halfway through the night he created a father
daughter dance which was fun for all the girls and their fathers. The weekend concluded with football and golf.
Kappa had its own tailgate while many girls still choose to tailgate with their
families. Overall, it was a great weekend for the Kappas to reconnect with
their families.
With these two weekends the Kappas ended up raising $44,500
for their philanthropies. This almost $10,000 than last year’s $35,000 and the
most Kappa has ever raised. The Kappas hope to continue to increase the amount
every year.
