New & Improved: A Quick Look Into Our Brand New Website!

With recruitment season just around the corner, the women of Kappa Kappa Gamma decided to revamp our online presence by making a few changes. Earlier this year, we created our very own Instagram account in hopes of providing alumnae, parents, members and potential new members a deeper insight into what Mizzou Kappa is really like. We also started a weekly Facebook column, "Went Kappa Wednesday", where we feature one member a week on why she chose to Go Kappa. Although these efforts to boost our social media presence were extremely successful, we didn't feel as though we were able to fully portray what it's really like to be apart of Theta Chapter. One Facebook post a week, a few Instagram pictures here and there or a 140 character tweet cannot successfully depict the magic that is Kappa Kappa Gamma.

This is where our new website comes in. After months of reworking layouts, choosing the perfect song to have play when you first visit the site (check out our site to see what song we settled on!), and countless hours of searching for the best pictures to feature, our site is finally up and running! Our new website contains countless new features that detail what Mizzou Kappa is all about.

When first visiting our site, you will see our "Home" screen which includes a slideshow that provides  a glimpse at the lives of the beautiful women of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Make sure to have your sound turned up when visiting our page because (SPOILER ALERT) you'll instantly hear the song "Back Home" by Andy Grammer. We chose this song because it's happy, fun and it perfectly represents what each and every one of us feels whenever we are with our sisters or step into 512 E. Rollins.

Once you've flipped through a few of our pictures, you're sure to want to know more about the women of Kappa. Wondering what that weird symbol is on our flag? Check out the "About Us" page to learn all of the basics of Kappa Kappa Gamma.

If you're interested in learning more about Theta Chapter, click on the "History" tab to find out even more about our chapter. Here, you will also see a few more pictures of some of our outstanding members, and our chapter accomplishments. Did you know we were the first sorority at The University of Missouri? Once you check out our site you'll know that and so much more!

For those of you interested in participating in Formal Recruitment this fall, be sure to stop by the "Recruitment" page to learn a little bit more about the recruitment process, recruitment dates, requirements and recommendation letter information. If you still have questions after visiting this page, feel free to shoot us a quick message under the "Contact" tab -- we will be sure to get back to you as soon as possible!

As you can see by viewing the "Recruitment" page, recruitment is full of fun days, meeting new people and most importantly finding the perfect place for you to call home during your time at Mizzou. For the many women of our chapter, Kappa has become home. To get a feel of what Kappa is all about, and why we all love it, continue to check out our site by clicking under the "In Action" tab. Here, you will be able to learn more about some of the most important parts of sorority life here at Mizzou. Click the "Socials" page to learn more about the many socials we have each year. These are fun events in which we bond with our sisters, friends and other chapters. Oh, and take LOTS of pictures.

While our socials are always fun to look forward to, the women of Kappa Kappa Gamma have many other annual events to get excited about. Some of these events include The Kappa Klassic, Homecoming and Greek Week. Check out the "Philanthropy" page to learn all about The Kappa Klassic, our annual golf tournament, and our three beneficiaries. Under the "Greek Relations" tab, learn about our involvement in Homecoming, and Greek Week. These events are just another great way to bond with sisters, help the community and achieve goals. The women of Kappa Kappa Gamma take each of these events seriously as we raised $44,500 at the Klassic last year, placed 2nd in Homecoming and 1st in Greek Week (for the third year in a row!)

At Kappa, we put our all into all aspects of university life. Most importantly, Kappa Kappa Gamma places very high importance on academics and scholarship. To learn more about our academic excellence, scholarship opportunities and our achievements, check out the "Scholarship" tab.

After you've gotten the chance to get a feel for what Kappa at Mizzou is all about, make sure to take a closer look at how our chapter is run by checking out the "Chapter Council" page. Here, you will get an idea of what leadership positions are available in our chapter and see what goes into keeping up Theta Chapter.

If you still want to learn more about Kappa, check out the "Social" tab to be able to check out our other social media platforms, a photo album, and videos featuring the women of Kappa Kappa Gamma.

Homecoming 2013 Recap

A week ago today we placed 2nd in Homecoming with Theta Chi and Farmhouse. Here's a look at how we did it:

Our theme for Homecoming this year overall was The Black and Gold Standard. Our city was Washington D.C. All of our events matched this city and theme this year.

Oct. 14th - 17th
University of Missouri Blood Drive

All of our members were required to either give blood or find someone to give for them. Mizzou hold's one of the largest blood drives in the nation. This year we set a record by donating our 100,000th unit ever to the Red Cross. We are proud to have been a part of it.

Oct. 19th Kicked off Homecoming week with our banner in our front yard.

Oct. 22nd
Fling in Jesse Auditorium

Our pairing created a 15 minute skit with two dances for the fling competition. Our skit can be watched here at 2:40

We also had two of our Kappas, Lindsay P. and Hannah O. perform an "Inbetween Act". They can be seen here at 0:44

Oct. 24th
Decorate The District

Our pairing was given Brigham's downtown to paint for Decorate the District this year. Here is the final product:

Oct. 25th
Campus Decorations

Friday night before the Homecoming game Greek Town is closed off for the pairing's campus decorations. Here are ours from this year which were located next to Farmhouse.

Oct. 26th
Parade

Saturday morning is the parade through campus and downtown. It's an early morning, but all of the floats look amazing and the Columbia community comes out to watch.

Football Game

Even though it was a loss by our team, we fought hard and everyone had a great time at the game. Homecoming is one of the best games of the year and it was great to see all of the Alumni back on campus.

Oct. 27th
Announcements

As all of the pairings gathered around the steps of Jesse eager to hear the final winning pairings, chanting, excitement, and nerves are witnessed all around. Here is the breakdown of what we placed:

Overall: 2nd
Blood: 4th
Campus Decorations: 1st
Parade: 1st
Service: 1st
Banner: 1st
Decorate The District: 1st
Royalty: 2nd

Keepin' Klassy Keepin' Busy

Every year in the fall, Kappa holds their annual Kappa Klassic golf tournament. This tournament is broken into two parts, the fraternity (and other organizations) Klassic as well as the Klassic for our dads on dads weekend. Throughout the two weeks, donations are gathered for our beneficiaries (Cedar Creek Therapeutic Riding Center, Reading Is Fundamental, and Kappa Foundation). This past week was our fraternity Klassic with all of the events geared towards Greek life and the fraternities participating.

The week before of the Fraternity Kappa Klassic benefitting Cedar Creek Therapeutic Riding Center, the ladies of Kappa were all aflutter with activity.  The week started off with King Candidate interviews on Tuesday, September 17th. Every house or organization sent an impeccably well-dressed representative to charm the Kappas with their witty words. Congratulations to Bryan of Theta Chi, our 2013 King Candidate winner.

Wednesday, September 18th started off two nights of serenades. The fraternity men journeyed to Kappa’s front lawn to serenade the women of Kappa and to compete against one another for points. Kappa ladies were wooed with cute songs, humorous dances and masterful skits. The boys obviously went all out to put on a show and be as entertaining as they could. It was great fun for all.

Thursday, September 19th was a night full of canning, Kappas and the houses participating in the Klassic teamed up to walk around downtown and collect donations for Cedar Creek (our local beneficiary). The Kappas and the boys were outgoing and friendly causing them to have great success. This activity continued into the next night.

The actual golf tournament for the fraternities and organizations was Saturday the 21st  and Sunday the 22nd. The tournament was a full 18 holes with teams of four. The participating golfers had the lovely Kappa ladies as caddies.  The top ranking team finished 17 under par.

Overall, it was a successful week for Kappa and our fraternity portion of our philanthropy. Thank you to everyone who donated and thanks also to anyone who participated! The Kappas couldn’t wait to have the second half of the Klassic with their dads the following weekend.

Dads weekend was just as successful as the weekend before it. The girls and their families took buses to Midway the night of Friday, September 27th   to have an awesome bonfire. Many Kappas had their whole families there. The whole night there was a dj playing an excellent soundtrack to the evening, about halfway through the night he created a father daughter dance which was fun for all the girls and their fathers.  The weekend concluded with football and golf. Kappa had its own tailgate while many girls still choose to tailgate with their families. Overall, it was a great weekend for the Kappas to reconnect with their families.

With these two weekends the Kappas ended up raising $44,500 for their philanthropies. This almost $10,000 than last year’s $35,000 and the most Kappa has ever raised. The Kappas hope to continue to increase the amount every year.

Start Of A New Year

We are pleased to announce that Theta Chapter has 82 beautiful new members! After a few stressful weeks and late nights, the outcome was very rewarding. We could not have asked for a better pledge class. We are very excited to start the year off and we can’t wait to spend time getting to know our new Kappa sisters.

Our theme for Bid Day this year was “Under The Sea With KKG”. New Members were welcomed to the house per usual with music, bid day tank tops, photos, and lots of hugs. Active members then took the new pledge class swimming before the traditional Tiger Walk that evening.

Theta Chapter has many plans for this upcoming semester that we are very excited to share with our sisters new and old. Keep up with Theta Chapter news this semester through our Facebook (Kappa Kappa Gamma at the University of Missouri), Twitter (@MizzouKappa), and through this blog.
